Experimental Equipment for Studying the Residual Stresses Developed During High Temperature Reactions by X-Ray Diffraction

This paper describes a device dedicated to studyng, by X-ray diffraction the residual stresses developed on surface samples as a function of temperature and atmosphere conditions. The setup consists of : a.) an horizontal axis goniometer which allows the programmed positionning of the sealed X-ray source and of the linear detector. b.) a high temperature controlled atmosphere chamber Particular attention has been paid to the thermal stability up to 1200°C and the accurate position on the sample.

Production of Nano-Sized Co<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> by Pyrolysis of Organic Extracts

The most promising application field of materials based on nano-sized Co3O4 is catalysis. The method of production is one of the factors, which greatly affects the catalytic activity of Co3O4 catalysts. The aim of this research is to study possibilities of a new promising extractive-pyrolytic method (EPM) for the production of Co3O4 nanopowders and silica- and ceria-supported Co3O4 nanocomposites. Thermal stability of magnetic characteristics of Co/Ag/Fe and Co/Ag/Fe20Ni80 spin-valve structures

Abstract We investigated the thermal stability of magnetic characteristics of Co/Ag/Fe and Co/Ag/Fe 20 Ni 80 spin-valve structures. Thin film systems were obtained with the help of sputtering method. For the first type of systems two particular thicknesses ( d ML  = 3 and 20 nm) and different disposition of magnetic layers (ML) were used. For the second type different thickness of Ag ( d NML ) spacer layer was used. The research of the crystal structure was performed with the transmission electron microscope. Evaluation and Comparison of Novel Precursors for Atomic Layer Deposition of Nb2O5 Thin Films

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of Nb2O5 thin films was studied using three novel precursors, namely, tBuN═Nb(NEt2)3, tBuN═Nb(NMeEt)3, and tamylN═Nb(OtBu)3. These precursors are liquid at room temperature, present good volatility, and are reactive toward both water and ozone as the oxygen sources. The deposition temperature was varied from 150 to 375 °C. ALD-type saturative growth modes were confirmed at 275 °C for tBuN═Nb(NEt2)3 and tBuN═Nb(NMeEt)3 together with both oxygen sources. Constant growth rate was observed between a temperature regions of 150 and 325 °C. By contrast, amylN═Nb(OtBu)3 exhibited limited thermal stability and thus a saturative growth mode was not achieved. Two prospective Li-based half-Heusler alloys for spintronic applications based on structural stability and spin–orbit effect

To search for half-metallic materials for spintronic applications, instead of using an expensive trial-and-error experimental scheme, it is more efficient to use first-principles calculations to design materials first, and then grow them. In particular, using a priori information of the structural stability and the effect of the spin–orbit interaction (SOI) enables experimentalists to focus on favorable properties that make growing half-metals easier. The substituent effect of π-electron delocalization in N-methylamino-nitropyridine derivatives: crystal structure and DFT calculations

AbstractThe crystal and molecular structures of 3-(N-methylamino)-2-nitropyridine, 5-(N-methylamino)-2-nitropyridine and 2-(N-methylamino)-5-nitropyridine have been characterized by X-ray diffraction. To perform conformational analysis, the geometries of the compounds as well as their conformers and rotamers were optimized at the B3LYP/6-311++G(3df,3pd) level. The resulting data were used to analyze the π-electron delocalization effect in relation to the methylamino group rotation in ortho-, meta- and para-substitution positions. Structural Tuning and Conformational Stability of Aromatic Oligoamide Foldamers

A series of aromatic oligoamide foldamers with two or three pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide units as their main folding motifs and varying aromatic building blocks as linkers have been synthetized to study the effects of the structural variation on the folding properties and conformational stability. Crystallographic studies showed that in the solid state the central linker unit either elongates the helices and more open S-shaped conformations, compresses the helices to more compact conformations or acts as a rigid spacer separating the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide units, which for their part add the predictability of the conformational properties.
